SpaceX Long Beach 78' RORO Bridge Project
Maritime Logistical Site — Port of Long Beach, CA
Project Overview
Nordholm partnered with Talco to provide engineering, fabrication, testing, and logistics support for SpaceX's Long Beach recovery operations. The project involved designing and constructing two custom 78-foot RORO bridges capable of supporting heavy recovery equipment and aerospace cargo moving between vessel decks and the dock. Through a combination of structural fabrication, load testing, and marine logistics expertise, Nordholm delivered a safe and reliable solution for this high-profile aerospace operation.
The Solution
Nordholm successfully executed the delivery and installation of the 78' bridges, ensuring seamless vessel access for heavy-load rolling operations. To meet SpaceX's technical requirements, the bridge underwent precision modifications and was subjected to in-house load testing to certify its structural capacity. Our team managed the intricate land-to-sea transport logistics, positioning the bridge on-site for immediate mission support. This end-to-end custom fabrication and rental service allowed SpaceX to safely and successfully complete their high-tech operation.
The Challenge
SpaceX required a heavy-duty bridge system capable of supporting specialized recovery equipment while maintaining safe access between vessels and shore-side operations. The project demanded strict structural performance requirements, transportation coordination, custom fabrication, and documented load testing to verify capacity before deployment. All work had to be completed to meet demanding operational schedules within an active port environment.
