Hydraulic Jack Manufacturing

Custom hydraulic jacks and jacking assemblies for heavy lifting, equipment positioning, and maritime and
industrial projects.

Engineered for Unrivaled Performance

Hydraulic Jacks Built for the Application

Nordholm builds strength and durability into its jacks through higher-strength steel and aluminum and double the number of wear bands and seals used in competing designs. The additional wear bands support and guide
moving components, while the enhanced sealing arrangement helps control hydraulic leakage.

These design choices emphasize structural strength, wear protection, and dependable operation in demanding heavy-lift applications. Nordholm combines engineering and manufacturing to develop hydraulic lifting equipment around the load, available space, and required movement.

Our jack range includes compact aluminum jacks, low-profile pancake jacks, locknut and dolly jacks, and heavy-duty climbing assemblies, including 500 metric ton equipment.

Nordholm designs and manufactures hydraulic jacks and custom jacking assemblies for projects that require a
defined lifting capacity, stroke, and equipment arrangement. Steel and aluminum configurations provide options for different handling requirements and installation conditions. Jack selection also considers the available
clearance, mounting details, and connection to the hydraulic system.

Our work can extend beyond the cylinder to the structure around it, including climbing casings, mounting plates,
and interfaces with lifting or transport equipment. This allows the jack and its supporting assembly to be
considered together during design and manufacturing.

Engineering Support for the Complete Jacking Arrangement

Nordholm Engineering can help establish the design requirements for a new jack or review how an existing configuration fits a project. The engineering scope can include load requirements, jack locations, available headroom, required stroke, mounting geometry, and interfaces with the supported equipment.

Where multiple jacks are part of the arrangement, load distribution and the hydraulic control requirements are addressed during system design. Engineering and manufacturing work together to develop equipment suited to the planned lifting sequence and site conditions.

Manufacturing Informed by Field Use

Nordholm's work with heavy lifting and transport equipment helps connect the design to the conditions encountered during assembly, positioning, and use. Access to hydraulic ports, equipment handling, installation space, and the sequence of the work all affect how a jack is configured. These practical considerations are brought into the engineering and manufacturing discussion.

Manufacturing Capabilities

Custom Jack and Assembly Fabrication
Hydraulic Component Machining
Materials and Component Selection

Nordholm fabricates jacking assemblies around the required load path, equipment envelope, and mounting arrangement. The scope can include steel or aluminum components, climbing casings, base and top plates, and interfaces with lifting or transport equipment. Component geometry and connection details are developed to suit the application.

Jack manufacturing requires controlled dimensions at cylinder bores, rods, seal locations, bearing surfaces, and mating components. Machining requirements are defined by the equipment design, with attention to fit, alignment, and surface condition. The required tolerances are established for the component and its function

Material selection considers the required capacity, component geometry, equipment weight, and service environment. Steel and aluminum designs provide different options for the jack body or surrounding assembly. Seals, wear components, fittings, and hydraulic connections are selected to suit the specified equipment configuration.

Engineering and Design Support

Nordholm Engineering supports the development of jack geometry, structural interfaces, and equipment
drawings. Customers can bring a defined design or an application that needs further development. Engineering support helps translate the lifting requirements into dimensions, connections, and manufacturing details that
can be reviewed before fabrication.

Hydraulic and Equipment Integration
Inspection and Testing

A jack must be compatible with the hydraulic equipment that operates it and the structure that supports the
load. Nordholm can review operating pressure, hydraulic connections, required movement, and mounting
interfaces as part of the equipment package. Power-unit and control requirements are defined for the
application, including arrangements that use multiple jacks.

Inspection and testing requirements are established for each project. Depending on the agreed scope, these
may include dimensional inspection, weld inspection, assembly checks, and hydraulic pressure and functional
testing. Required records and acceptance criteria are identified with the customer so that the delivered
documentation matches the equipment and project requirements.

  • Climbing and Self Climbing Jacks

Climbing assemblies combine a hydraulic jack with a casing used as part of a staged lifting or lowering arrangement. Nordholm's range includes 55T self-climbing jacks in aluminum and steel configurations, 150T climbing jacks with wide-mouth and bolt-plate casings, and a 500 metric ton self-climbing assembly. Casing geometry and the surrounding support arrangement are considered with the overall lifting plan.

  • Heavy Lift Hydraulic Jacks

The range includes 150T jack configurations with 6, 14, and 24 inch strokes, along with a 500 metric ton jack with a 25.25 inch stroke. These configurations provide options when required travel and installation height drive the equipment selection. Nordholm can review the jack arrangement and its connection to the supported structure as part of the project scope

  • Aluminum Hydraulic Jacks

Aluminum jack configurations include 55T and 100T models. These provide options where equipment weight
and handling are important considerations. Selection takes account of the required capacity, stroke, available
clearance, and the way the jack will be positioned and connected at the work location.

  • Low Profile Pancake Jacks

The SA-160-02 and SAL-160-02 pancake jack models provide a compact arrangement for applications with limited vertical clearance. Both come with a 2-inch stroke, with different collapsed heights. The short body allows the initial jack position to be considered where a taller cylinder may not fit. Nordholm frequently designs and manufactures specific pancake jacks due to the very nature of low clearance jacking applications.

  • Locknut Jacks

The 65T locknut jack combines hydraulic movement with a threaded mechanical support feature. It provides a configuration for applications that call for a mechanical holding arrangement at the jack. The support requirements and use of the locknut are established for the selected equipment and application.

  • Dolly Jacks

The 50T double-acting dolly jack is configured for integration with transport equipment and comes with a 16-inch stroke and a bolted mounting flange. Nordholm can review the mounting arrangement and hydraulic connections as part of a coordinated dolly and lifting equipment package.

Questions About Hydraulic Jack Manufacturing

Can Nordholm develop a custom jack?

Yes. Nordholm can review a new application or a customer-provided design and develop the jack or jacking assembly around the required load, stroke, mounting arrangement, and available space. The manufacturing and engineering scope is established for the project.

What is the difference between stroke and total lift height?

Stroke describes the travel of the hydraulic jack in a single extension. A climbing arrangement uses successive stages as part of a planned lifting sequence. The total lift height depends on the complete arrangement and is reviewed separately from the jack's stroke.

Can the jack be integrated with other equipment?

Nordholm can review interfaces with climbing casings, transport dollies, support structures, and hydraulic equipment. The required connections, mounting details, and controls are defined as part of the project scope.

What information helps Nordholm prepare a quote?

Provide the total load and any known load at individual jack locations, the required stroke or total lift height, available clearance, and mounting requirements. Include existing hydraulic-system information, drawings or photographs, the work location, and the required delivery date when available.

Featured JACKING EQUIPMENT

500 Metric Ton Jacking Equipment

Nordholm's 500 metric ton jack and self-climbing assembly show how a high-capacity hydraulic cylinder can be configured as individual equipment or incorporated into a larger jacking structure. Both come with a 25.25 inch stroke and a 500 metric ton rating at 5,800 psi (400 bar).

The self-climbing configuration incorporates a fabricated casing around the cylinder. Selecting between configurations requires consideration of the available space, supported load, and planned lifting sequence.
